My go-to spot in Auckland for snacks that remind me of Hong Kong!
There's not many places in Auckland that sell my all-time fave snack from Hong Kong: egg waffles (aka 鸡蛋仔)! But Hong Kong Station does! Literally every time I saw this at a food stall in HK, I HAD to buy it! Unfortunately (and not surprising), it's not as cheap in New Zealand.
It's become quite a trend in NZ to have these egg waffles sold with ice-cream and toppings to decorate - to cater/attract to non-Asians, I think. However, I personally prefer just the egg waffles by itself rather than with ice cream, so that it keeps its crispness when it's freshly served. It's best eaten hot and cripsy in my opinion. But of course, when it's for the gram, you've gotta get it with ice cream right?
Hong Kong Station also do the checkered waffles HK style. My go-to is the Seaweed Meat Floss Checkered Waffle - I honestly love all things that have pork floss. There's so many options (savoury and sweet!) to choose from for both egg waffles and checkered waffles, it cannot disappoint.
P.S. I visited them for the first time right after they went off Zomato Gold - this has happened to me too many times rip me 🤦♀️
