Situated along the waterfront on Princes Wharf, this relaxed Fusion Mediterranean tapas bar and eatery mixes fine dining with indoor and outdoor and is a lovely spot for after-work chill feed and nights or a date night.
I was invited to have dinner at Astor on a Friday night and had a wonderful experience at trying out fusion Spanish & Mediterranean food. We started off with drinks and were served a range of tapas and mains showcasing the best of what they had to offer - took the pressure off deciding what to order for once!
As soon as we stepped in, we were drawn to the live music which created a lovely romantic vibe - Sure made the cold night better! Live music is available every Friday and Saturday night I believe. Some dishes were definitely better than others. Everyone's favourite dish was hands down the Gnocchi which was served in super creamy sauce. It was so good we could not let the sauce go to waste so used it with the other dishes! I also liked the Calamari and venison meatballs. Definitely recommend going with a group and getting tapas (rather than the mains) to share as these are their specialty and we enjoyed the tapas much more. The plating of their food is also super unique and creative! Extra points for the overall experience and presentation.
For mains, we had a huge seafood paella and a salmon dish. I was looking forward to the paella but to be honest, it wasn't as good as I expected. It would have been nice if the mussels were mixed in with the paella to give it some flavour, but it seems it is added like that for presentation. We shared between a group of us so was all finished pretty fast!
Astor is also currently on Zomato Gold so I would definitely recommend you go check it out (and get the gnocchi!)
